Why does my 2005 Accord Sedan need a double din stereo and not the regular kind?

Currently got a 2005 Honda Accord LX sedan and wanted to replace the stock stereo but alot of people have told me that i am going to need a double din stereo for it. What's the difference with a single din compared to a double din? Would any double din stereo work for 2005 Accord? Or do i need specific ones? Please help.

the size opening in your dash single din is about 2 inches high double din is about 4 inches. they make adapters to fit a single din in your double din opening and they are in expensive. get the stereo you really want and if necessary the adapter to make it fit.
