Away Unit
How does National Guard OCS work? Are you able to pick your unit, MOS?
Will I be assigned to a unit near me? Or is there a chance I'll be assigned to a unit, 80 miles away?
Your unit/MOS is a combination of needs of your state and your request. I went through a few years ago and I was assigned to a unit about 75 miles away. I knew that was a chance because of the MOS I wanted.
If you still need a letter of recommendation, I suggest going to the unit you want to be in, talk to the commander and see if they have any open slots. If they do, ask that commander to write your letter of recommendation requesting you to fill the empty slot. That may help get you the unit you want.
Ask your state Officer Strength Manager for updates.
