Diagonal tire wear?

One of my rear tires on my 2004 civic has diagonal tire wear. i got it on a new tire and they told me my Struts were bad and they should be replaced. My questions are these? 1. can be replaced only 1, or do not have to replace all of them 2. I am very good with my hands, it can be done in 3rd driveway. Is there anything that can cause the ear .. only one rear tire. Other tires in the rear is new from a year ago. car doesn't have any meaning so im pretty sure that the best alignment. I replaced the tire and told them im gonna get a second opinion. Ill get changed if they have to but would rather know if can monitor who now know they are new tires balanced there, or if there is a way I can check to see if Struts bad.750 bucks would suck to have to spend, if I can avoid it. in Thanks to all

Struts should be replaced in pairs .... You can change the rears a month and when your budget does not allow the fronts in another time .... The car can not have any meaning, but lets say one of spindles or rear axle is set up or down .... Cars will find the truth but will wear rubber or inside or outside depending on the set it up or down .... Doesn't take much to be knocked out of alignment the tires wear ...... Struts in your own driveway or garage ?..... If your keen then mechanicaly no problem .... make sure you use good tools - crafts are beautiful ... Buy a Haynes or Chiltons service .... Also manual - Have you checked edge of the wheel to see if its set or "spinning the truth? A bent wheel can quickly wear a rubber! $ 750 for Struts? Ummmm Thats a little high if you ask me ..... A rears itself. They are easy - if you have faith then do fronts ... .. Do not buy el-cheapo great specials in stock parts. Buy a better grade - Struts nice ride free for 6 months and then your back to ride like crap again ....
